Turner Medical Arts is committed to help you
Achieve Your Nutritional and Weight Management Goals.

Initial Consultation

Duincan John Turner, MDAn initial consultation will be given including a history and physical examination and realistic goals established. A food plan will be custom designed to fit your metabolism, lifestyle and philosophy. During the first visit you will have a metabolic assessment through blood work and if necessary an EKG. This is recommended by the American Society of Bariatric Physicians as it is essential to take into consideration our patients health status.

Nutritional Supplements and Fat Burning Aids

Depending on the weight management program moist suitable for you vitamins, omega 3 fish oils and other  supplements may be recommended. These may be in oral or injectable form. Often, meal substitutes and detoxification  plans may be utilized.

Continued Visits

Three month plans are usually embarked upon. These would require weekly visits for assessment of progress, trouble shooting and adjustments. We find much greater success with close observation. These follow up visits are very brief and consequently convenient for our patients.

Which Plan is Right for You?

  1. The Extreme Weight Loss Diet – This is really a program for those needing to lose a lot of weight (30 pounds or more) as quickly and as safely as possible. It requires very significant calorie restriction under close monitoring. Safe appetite suppressants may be indicated. Patients have to be seen every week. This is usually a three month program with options to continue as necessary.

  2. The HCG Diet – Currently a very popular but short program of 6 weeks, involving significant calorie restriction whilst utilizing injections of HCG for 6 days a week. These injections may be self administered.  Again, close monitoring is required. This program is extremely effective and perfect for the patient wishing to lose 20-30 pounds.

  3. The Paleolithic (or Cave Man) Diet – This diet is the most physiological and healthy of them all. It is the diet we should all be on all of the time. It is the diet to which the human species has evolved most successfully. Imagine a diet unrestricted in quantity that encourages your body to attain its most favorable weight without trying. The restrictions are not in the quantity of food but the type. The types allowed are those your body digests most efficiently, giving more energy, enhanced performance both physically and mentally and enabling better sleep. It is cleansing and detoxifying. This is also the diet that is recommended for our extreme weight loss patients for maintenance, to prevent the rebound phenomenon seen with all weight loss programs.

  4. The Detoxification and Wellness Program --  This is our Ultimate Health Solution. It involves the Paleolithic diet, detoxifying food supplements with twice yearly infrared sauna treatments of 10-14 days duration. (20-30 minutes twice a day in your own home). Definitely what we all should be doing in our stressful, demanding lives.

Exercise

Weight control is largely by calorie restriction with appropriate dietary changes rather than severe exercise.  Initially, patients on a severely calorie-restricted diet find themselves tired and unable to exercise even to their normal amount.  I therefore recommend that patients restrict that exercise to half of what they were previously accomplishing or if they are not on any exercise program, they should be encouraged to walk for 20 minutes three times a week.  After two weeks, if the patient is on a regular exercise program, they may revert to that activity and patients without a previous program gradually increase to 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise, walking, running, elliptical machine or similar three times a week.  Stretching and yoga are encouraged, but do not play a large part in weight management.
