What is Botox?
Botox Cosmetic is an FDA-approved prescription medication that, once injected, renders specific facial muscles inactive, leading to fewer creases when the muscles contract. Dr. Turner or an experienced nurse practitioner places the injections strategically, targeting perceived problem areas you wish to address. Most commonly, Botox is used to minimize creases and wrinkles across the forehead, around the eyes — “crow’s feet” — and surrounding the lips.
How long does it take?
Botox is a non-invasive procedure that only requires about 15 minutes of your time. After a consultation to discuss your goals, the treatment itself lasts about 10 minutes. Results may begin to appear within 24-48 hours for moderate to severe creases and lasts up to 4 months.
Does it hurt?
The tiny needles inserted into your muscles for Botox may cause mild and temporary pain or discomfort. Some patients compare the sensation to a pinch or bee sting while others experience virtually no pain. If you’re concerned about pain, Dr. Turner may use a topical numbing agent. You may also apply ice to the area beforehand.
How many injections will I need?
The number of Botox injections needed varies depending on the deepness and prevalence of the facial lines as well as your desired results. For crow’s feet, your specialist will inject Botox into 3 areas framing the eye. You may need a total of 5 injections in your forehead muscles for frown lines.
Are there side effects?
Since its FDA approval for cosmetic use in 2002, Botox has maintained an impressive safety record. Like all cosmetic treatments, however, it may cause side effects. A small percentage of patients experience frown line drooping or eyelid swelling. You may also experience headache, dry eyes, allergic reactions, neck pain, vision changes or pain or discomfort at injection sites. Although rare, the most serious potential side effects include breathing difficulties and the bodily spread of toxins.
What is ThermiSmooth®?
Whether you desire smoother skin without injections or an additional means of smoother, tighter skin, ThermiSmooth provides a useful option. During the procedure a device glides smoothly across your skin, delivering radiofrequency energy into the tissue. Your skin absorbs the energy as heat, which causes collagen to contract, leading to tighter, smoother skin. Desired results typically occur from a series of 6 treatments over 6-8 weeks.
