Vaginal Rejuvenation in Santa Barbara
An even less invasive approach has recently been approved by the FDA for use in the USA called the MonaLisa Touch®.
Women experiencing vaginal discomfort during sexual intercourse or any time may believe that they have to either deal with the problem or face an invasive surgery combined with hormone replacement therapy if they want something to change. Given the nature of the condition, some women may even feel unwilling to discuss their symptoms and hopes for relief with other people, even a doctor. For all of these women, and more, there is MonaLisa Touch®, a minimally invasive procedure for vaginal rejuvenation at Santa Barbara's Turner Medical Arts.
The MonaLisa Touch® laser treatment is FDA approved and designed to quickly, easily, and painlessly address the symptoms of hormonal changes, bringing relief and restoring confidence to women dealing with vaginal atrophy or laxity. No woman should suffer out of fear of embarrassment or reluctance to bring up the subject of her own discomfort. The first step toward relief and restored confidence is talking with a compassionate and discreet professional with years of experience in woman-focused care: Dr. Duncan Turner.
Why Choose MonaLisa Touch®?
Created in Italy and similar to the lasers used for facial rejuvenation, the MonaLisa Touch®stimulates collagen production, which thickens and strengthens the vaginal tissues. This can relieve symptoms such as vaginal dryness, pain during intercourse, itching and irritation, urinary frequency, and incontinence, any and all of which are often experienced during times of hormone imbalance, including after childbirth, while breastfeeding, in menopause, following a hysterectomy or cancer treatment, and more.
The vaginal rejuvenation treatment requires no anesthesia, is performed in the office, takes about 10 minutes, and requires no downtime. It is usually recommended that three treatments be given over a few months and then repeated as necessary every year or two.
How Does MonaLisa Touch® Work?
As noted above, the CO2 fractional laser used in MonaLisa Touch® prompts the vaginal walls to begin making new collagen, which is a protein that provides structure, as well as support for other beneficial components of healthy tissue. A single laser application lasts about five minutes. No anesthetic is required, though patients concerned about the possibility of discomfort can request a numbing cream to be applied prior to the treatment.
After the MonaLisa Touch® session, the growth of new collagen encourages increased blood flow and natural lubrication, prompting vaginal rejuvenation. This rehydrates the area, further reducing friction. Patients may notice an immediate improvement, but should avoid any vaginal sexual intercourse for the first few days after the treatment.
Vaginal Rejuvenation Options Beyond MonaLisa Touch®
While MonaLisa Touch® is ideal for women seeking a minimally invasive solution to their comfort problems, vaginal rejuvenation surgery is also an option available at Turner Medical Arts. Dr. Duncan Turner is a leader in these procedures, as well as labiaplasty. His understanding that no single approach is appropriate for every woman seeking help prompted him to bring the modern, nonsurgical option of MonaLisa Touch® to his Santa Barbara practice.

MonaLisa Touch® Vaginal Rejuvenation Testimonials
From Oct. 23, 2015
After four vaginal deliveries (two in my 40s), my face has aged better than the area down under. I've been hearing about the MonaLisa Touch® for a few months, and when I learned that one of the most reputable OB/GYNs in town had just acquired the laser, I called immediately for a consultation.
During my consultation/exam, I learned that I have a minor rectocele and cystocele, which may be improved from the MonaLisa Touch®. Dr. Turner thoroughly explained the procedure to me. I had it done this morning, and it was much easier than I anticipated. No pain, no irritation, and I went straight back to work (and didn't need to use the ice pack they gave me)!
His medical assistant, Tracy, and office manager, Christine, were wonderful. I'm going back in six weeks for a second treatment and will post more. Sorry, not sharing any before and after photos of this procedure!*
From Jan. 5, 2016
Had back surgery for benign tumor resulting in nerve damage to bladder and bowel. Was extremely difficult to urinate and to completely empty my bladder. From excessive pushing to urinate and having big babies, I developed prolapse of uterus, cystocele, and rectocele and advised more surgery.
Sexually could feel very little due to laxity. Also had incontinence of urine and stool.
After consulting with Dr. Turner and not wanting more surgery, I did the MonaLisa Touch®. UNBELIEVABLE improvement within 24 to 36 hours. Exercising more and the laser helped me to urinate nearly normally after one treatment, vaginal tissue tighter, Kegel strength stronger, more sexual fulfillment.
Continued dramatic improvement after second MonaLisa Touch®. I did internal and external all three treatments. My tissue is visibly and texturally younger and tighter, both vaginally and the labia.
The continued increase in strength and improvement with urinating is phenomenal.
Only a rare occurrence of leaking with very full bladder. Bowel function, if it were approved for that area I would try. That is how impressed and happy I am.
Vaginal dryness is not an issue, I rarely use Vagifem® now.
For the dramatic improvement of my condition, I highly advise the MonaLisa Touch® vaginal laser with Dr. Turner or his nurse practitioner.
I truly believe having these treatments has improved my quality of life.
After No. 3, continued strength and normal urinating.
Dr. Turner is a pioneer in utilizing technological applications to help women, not to mention his superb kindness and bedside manner.
Go for the improvement, ladies. It works.
I am a patient and a women's health nurse practitioner. MonaLisa Touch® works. Do the one or two per year follow ups, as they help maintain the results. Thank you for listening.*

“There are a tremendous number of changes that affect the vagina over time, which causes uncomfortable symptoms—dryness, painful sex, incontinence, lack of sexual satisfaction. Many patients know that these are common symptoms – they are the norm. However, patients don’t have to live with them; there are safe and easy treatments available, like ThermiVa and MonaLisa Touch. I don’t know many women who would not benefit from these treatments.” -Duncan Turner MD
