Student and Mother

I grew up in Santa Barbara.  I couldn’t wait to leave, until I left! Then I couldn’t wait to move back.  I made a round of the University of California schools during my undergraduate and graduate years, Irvine, Berkeley, Santa Barbara and San Francisco.  I finished my graduate degree at UCSF, finishing with a Masters in Nursing as a Women’s Nurse Practitioner and Nurse-Midwife.  In the process I also birthed 3 lovely, gentle, smart, warm-hearted and funny children whom I adore!  They are currently teenagers and young adults.  It’s been my greatest pleasure in life and an honor to be their mother.

Nurse Midwife

I spent many years as caring for and supporting many wonderful women and their families in Santa Barbara during their pregnancies and births.  I have recently stepped away from the everyday (and numerous nights!) that being a midwife entails.  I am currently working on a book that has the most up to date research for pregnancy, optimal prenatal environment for babies and evidence based birth practices.  I still provide pre-conception and prenatal counseling.

Endocrinology Nerd

During my graduate studies, I wrote my Masters Thesis on Hormone Replacement Therapy during the era of the Women’s Health Initiate Study that severely altered the course of standard medical care when it came to women in this country.  It has always been a passion of mine to find the most effective, safe and research based care for women.

I have always been interested in the space where conventional medicine,  nutrition, alternative therapies, and functional medicine intersect. This interest only heightened after I sustained a serious back injury in 2014.  I experienced first hand that it is at this meeting place of many modalities that we find the best and most effective healthcare.

Functional Medicine

I am currently working on a fellowship in Functional Medicine.  It’s rigorous.  It’s eye opening.  It approaches people with a whole view perspective.  Everything in our body interacts and affects everything else.  Optimal health can more readily be found by addressing the root of health problems by using this hands-on, open minded, synergistic approach to healthcare.
