Facelift

When your self-confidence becomes affected by the appearance of sagging skin or wrinkles on your face, a facelift may be the best solution.

With age comes skin laxity, facial volume loss, and other similar issues that diet and exercise can’t readily combat. Some people are better at tolerating these aging signs. However, not everyone is built the same way. When your self-confidence becomes affected by the appearance of sagging skin or wrinkles on your face, a facelift may be the best solution. At Turner Medical Arts, our plastic surgeon, Michael Giuffrida, MD, has a long history of improving the appearance and confidence of our patients. If you are ready to look and feel better, we encourage you to contact our center today.

What Is a Facelift?

A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgery designed to improve the look of one’s face by reducing signs of wrinkles, fine lines, and sagging skin associated with age. This procedure comes in several varieties including a traditional facelift that begins with incisions in the hairline and a limited incision facelift that involves making shorter cuts at the temples. When you visit our Santa Barbara center, Dr. Giuffrida will take the time to discuss your particular aesthetic goals. After a thorough consultation, he will recommend the right treatment plan to get you the results you seek with as little downtime as possible.

Facelift Surgery Procedure

A facelift surgery begins with either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your health and needs. Once you are prepped, the doctor will begin making incisions depending on the degree of change you’d like to see. After tightening the skin, the doctor will close the incisions with sutures that may dissolve naturally or require removal in the next couple of days. Once healed, incision lines from the facelift will be concealed within the hairline and by the natural contours of your face and ears.

Expected Results from Surgery

After your facelift, you may experience some postoperative discomfort, but this can typically be managed with oral pain killers and will subside after a few days. When you visit our center, Dr. Giuffrida will review your procedure plan and post-care instructions during your consultation. After your surgery, you can expect to return to work within 10-14 days. All swelling will typically subside within a week. Strenuous activity should be avoided for at least 4-6 weeks after a facelift procedure.
