What Is Implant Removal?

Implant removal is a surgical procedure to remove silicone or saline breast implants. These implants are typically made to last 10-15 years but can be removed before then. They are sometimes removed due to tissue hardening, complications, personal choice, or for replacement with other implants. It is a good idea to perform a breast lift along with this procedure to avoid sagging after implant removal.

When Is The Procedure Needed?

This procedure may be necessary if you develop breast implant illness or BII. Though not an official diagnosis, BII is all too real and can cause various symptoms. People with this disorder can experience fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, dry eyes, and other health concerns. If these seem familiar, scheduling a consultation with Dr. Polynice can provide you with the answers and information you need.

How Is This Surgery Performed?

The surgery is performed under general anesthesia. During the operation, Dr. Polynice will make incisions around the areola or under the lower fold of your breasts. Then, the implants and scar tissue will be carefully removed. New implants will be added (if the previous implants are being replaced), and stitches or tapes will be used to close the incisions. Additionally, a breast lift procedure may be performed during this operation, depending on your specific needs.
