About Dr. Turner

Dr. Duncan Turner of Turner Medical Arts in Santa Barbara, California, is a trailblazer in the gynecology field. After receiving his undergraduate pre-medical degrees from Queens College and St. Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in England, he obtained his postgraduate training at Barnet General Hospital and Bolingbroke General Hospital in England. Dr. Turner completed his residency at University of Colorado Medical Center where he served as chief resident of obstetrics and gynecology.

For the past 35 years the board-certified gynecologist has shared his passion, skills, and expertise with patients. From his first day at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital he influenced hospital policy, starting with the addition of sibling visitation postpartum. He was instrumental in creating the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit and shortly afterward incorporated a midwife into his practice, which at that time was unprecedented.

Early in his career Dr. Turner realized that minimally-invasive surgery was the future for surgical techniques, and he actively sought training in this area, becoming the first gynecologist in Santa Barbara to perform advanced laparoscopic surgery in gynecology. He has remained actively involved in clinical research and the development of surgical technology in this area. As a noted speaker nationally and internationally, he presents on robotic surgery and minimizing surgical complications.

As a center for women’s health, Turner Medical Arts embodies Dr. Turner’s unique spirit as he educates his patients on new products, technologies, and state of the art procedures while maintaining his patient-first philosophy. His vision of women's healthcare has remained steadfast throughout his career: to deliver only the best patient care to women of all ages.
