Vein Sclerotherapy

Vein Sclerotherapy

Spider veins are those pesky red lines that appear on certain parts of our bodies. These twisted additions to our skin are not only unpleasant to look at, but can be quite painful, too. Itching, burning, and irritation are all common symptoms experienced by those struggling with spider veins. Luckily, relief is available in the form of vein sclerotherapy. This treatment involves collapsing the blood vessels that make up spider veins with a sclerosing solution. At Turner Medical Arts, we provide these specialized injections to help people find relief.

What Is Vein Sclerotherapy?

As mentioned, vein sclerotherapy involves the injection of a sclerosing solution into the tiny blood vessels that make up spider veins. After the injection is administered, the superficial blood vessels eventually collapse and are reabsorbed by the body. The blood that once flowed through those blood vessels automatically reroute to new ones. This treatment is harmless and can provide patients with long-term relief.

The Procedure

During the vein sclerotherapy procedure, you will lie down on a comfortable bed while Dr. Turner administers the sclerosing solution injections. Once the injections have been finished, compression bandages will be applied to the injection site. These bandages will have to be worn overnight, possibly longer for some patients. The procedure itself may feel somewhat uncomfortable, but we will do all we can to make the experience as pleasant as possible for you.

Vein Sclerotherapy Treatment Results

Following the procedure, most patients will see results after three to six weeks.* While some soreness may be present, your vein sclerotherapy treatment will not result in any long-term complications. After the bandages have been removed, you will see a reduction in the appearance of the targeted spider veins.* The best part of this treatment is that it results in no downtime. After your visit, you are free to return to your regular schedule.
