Hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis

Occasional sweating is a necessary and natural function that allows our bodies to stay cool while relieving our systems of toxins. Typically, most people sweat when exposed to extreme heat or during vigorous exercise. However, some of us sweat more than others and in some cases, this may be due to a medical issue. Hyperhidrosis is a condition that causes too much sweat production, leading to embarrassment and loss of self-esteem. At Turner Medical Arts, we provide relief from this condition through our effective BOTOX® Cosmetic injections.

What Is Hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is an uncomfortable medical condition that causes excessive sweating. The major problem with this disorder is that it causes sweating even when it is unnecessary and unrelated to heat or exercise. Generally, a person suffering from hyperhidrosis will sweat excessively from a certain area like their palms, underarms, or face. Besides disrupting normal daily activities, this condition may also ruin clothes, make romance difficult, and complicate business interactions. Severe cases can have serious practical consequences as well: Excessive sweat can make it hard for people to grip a car steering wheel or hold onto a railing.

Treating Hyperhidrosis With Neurotoxins

BOTOX® injections are FDA-approved and can safely paralyze muscles in order to reduce wrinkles or prevent sweating. Neurotoxins work by blocking the secretion of chemicals that activate sweat glands. When you visit our Santa Barbara center, we will first assess your condition in order to determine the proper treatment course. If neurotoxins are right for you, we will inject it into the area where the excessive sweating occurs. A topical anesthetic may be applied to manage discomfort beforehand, but the procedure itself is so quick that pain management might not even be necessary. This treatment lasts roughly 10 minutes and requires zero downtime, allowing you to return to your normal routine right after your visit.

Expected Treatment Results

Results of your hyperhidrosis treatment can be noticed within 24-48 hours after your visit.* However, peak results will become apparent after roughly two weeks.* The more units injected, the longer the drying effects tend to last. Everybody breaks down neurotoxins differently, so the duration of the results will vary. Generally, you can expect the results to last for 3-6 months after your treatment.*
