Facial fillers — also known as dermal fillers — are gels injected into the face for added plumpness or smoothness to desired areas, such as shallow contours or thin lips. Fillers can also help minimize wrinkles and creases in your face, reconstruct certain facial deformities, and reduce the appearance of scars with a sunken appearance.
Facial fillers add gel to targeted areas using a product that best suits your conditions and desired results. And they work quickly. You’ll leave the short, typically less than 30-minute, minimally invasive treatment, with fuller, plumper, smoother skin.
Dr. Turner provides the following facial fillers:
JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA® XC: For lips and vertical lines surrounding lips
JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™: For parentheses lines
JUVÉDERM VOLUMA® XC: For the cheek area
JUVÉDERM® ULTRA XC: For lips, deep wrinkles, nasolabial folds, and hollowed cheeks
The needles used for facial filler injections are tiny, so any discomfort tends to be mild. JUVÉDERM injectable gels labeled “XC” contain lidocaine for added ease. If you’re concerned about pain or have particularly sensitive skin you can request additional numbing cream or an ice pack to apply to the area beforehand.
JUVÉDERM fillers consist of a modified form of hyaluronic acid — a natural substance your skin already contains — that delivers nutrients, helps skin stay soft and moist, and adds volume. Each JUVÉDERM product contains a unique and specialized hyaluronic acid formula.
Side effects of JUVÉDERM tend to be mild and temporary and may include swelling, tenderness, redness, bumps, itching, or pain at the injection sites. More serious side effects are rare. Tell Dr. Turner about any allergies or other health conditions you have and whether you plan to have other laser treatments or chemical peels soon to ensure your wellness and safety. Some of these factors increase your risk of side effects.
While the specifics vary, you can expect the immediate results of your injections to last for about one to two years. Once the benefits have diminished you can schedule an additional treatment.
