Overview of Medications:

Sermorelin is a structurally truncated analog of Growth Hormone-Releasing Hormone (GHRH). It consists of 29 amino acids of the naturally occurring neurohormone that is produced in the hypothalamus. Sermorelin is the most widely used member of the GHRH and can significantly promote the synthesis and release of growth hormone from cells in the pituitary gland, improving the serum concentrations of GH and subsequently insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). IGF-1 leads to an increase in peripheral glucose uptake and a decreased production of hepatic glucose causing better insulin sensitivity. Insulin resistance may be the #1 cause of obesity, pre-diabetes and diabetes.

Low-Dose Naltrexone (LDN) is an opioid antagonist originally approved by the FDA for the treatment of alcohol dependence by curbing the craving for alcohol and opioid addiction. The old standard doses of naltrexone being 50mg to 100mg per day is not the case in our weight loss program. This LDN is 1.5-4.5 mg and may help curb patient’s appetite and cravings to assist with the recommended Very Low Calorie Diet. Other novel uses for LDN may include reduced symptoms of fibromyalgia, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and complex regional pain syndrome. Note: Patients cannot be receiving opioids for pain while
taking naltrexone.
