KETO and Intermittent Fasting

Recent studies of KETO and intermittent fasting have linked the two diets to improved sleep, lower cholesterol, and improved resistance to certain diseases such as cancer and diabetes. Though these benefits are still somewhat speculative, both of these dietary options have been shown to improve energy and expedite weight loss. Here are the two diets explained in brief:

Ketogenic Diet (KETO)

The KETO diet is a low-carb, high-fat dietary plan that involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. When carbs are removed, your body enters a state called ketosis, during which time it becomes super efficient at burning fat for energy. It also has the added effect of turning fat into ketones in the liver, thus supplying energy for the brain. There are currently different types of KETO diets out on the market, each of which can be explained during your consultation at our Santa Barbara center.

Intermittent Fasting

Simply put, intermittent fasting involves restricting the amount of calories you take in throughout the day. A common intermittent fasting strategy is to establish a 16-hour fasting window. This could mean, for instance, having your first meal of the day be lunch at noon and having the last time you eat for the day be at 8pm for dinner. The goal of this diet is not to eat less, but to eat less often. By doing so, you naturally reduce your food intake and promote weight loss.
