Get Younger-Looking Skin With No Surgery
Wrinkles may appear on the surface of your skin, but the changes that cause those unwanted lines to form occur in a deeper layer. One of the biggest culprits behind the formation of wrinkles is collagen loss. This protein is found in your skin in abundance throughout your youth, but production declines as you age—as collagen breaks down due to time, ultraviolet radiation, and environmental damage. ThermiSmooth® at Santa Barbara's Turner Medical Arts is a nonsurgical solution, using radiofrequency energy to remodel the collagen you have while also starting the production of new collagen.
Dr. Duncan Turner added ThermiSmooth® to his practice because of its reputation. Manufacturer Almirall offers a variety of radiofrequency-based devices that reliably deliver beautiful results. Turner Medical Arts regularly uses other devices in the line to great effect, so this addition is definitely a welcome one.
How Does ThermiSmooth® Work?
A ThermiSmooth® application involves moving the device carefully over the area to be treated. As it glides smoothly across the skin, it delivers carefully calibrated radiofrequency energy into the tissue. The energy is absorbed as heat, which causes collagen to contract, leading to smoother, tighter skin. As mentioned above, this heat also prompts a process known as "neocollagenesis," which will lead to continued improvements as more of the beneficial protein appears.
A series of up to six treatment sessions spread over six to eight weeks will typically allow patients to achieve the results they want.
The treatment is nonsurgical, so there are no incisions or sutures necessary. The device remains on the surface of the skin throughout the session, which can be completed in a matter of minutes. Specific times, as well as numbers of treatments and cost, depend on the area to be rejuvenated.

What Areas Does ThermiSmooth® Treat?
One of the primary applications of ThermiSmooth® on the body is for a temporary reduction in cellulite on the thighs and buttocks. It can also be used to treat wrinkling and laxity on the chest and breasts, the arms, the abdomen, the flanks, the back, the hips, and the knees, calves, and ankles.
ThermiSmooth® can be applied to the face on the forehead, around the eyes, on the cheeks, around the mouth, and on the neck.
Options Beyond ThermiSmooth®
Dr. Duncan Turner also uses radiofrequency energy for rejuvenating the vaginal area with ThermiVa®, a device that, like ThermiSmooth®, triggers renewed collagen production—though in this case, the benefits include thicker vaginal walls, increased moisture, and strengthened support for the bladder, leading to fewer urinary symptoms and great sexual satisfaction.
Turner Medical Arts also offers MonaLisa Touch®, which uses lasers to stimulate collagen production in the vaginal area for similar results. Often these two technologies may be used together for even better results.
Dr. Turner works with each patient to help her choose which treatment will best suit her and deliver ideal results, no matter what part of her body she wants rejuvenated.
